Decew Falls and Morningstar Mill in Ontario
A view of the top of the Decew Falls and Morningstar Mill in Ontario.

The Decew Falls is a Niagara Escarpment Waterfall in the St. Catharines region of Ontario. Two waterfalls make up the ‘Decew Falls,’ the smaller Lower Decew Falls and The larger Upper Decew Falls. There is also a less impressive Tunnel Falls on the left side of the central falls. You can get a glimpse of the picturesque Upper Decew Falls from the Morningstar Mill property, but if you want to see the falls in all its glory, you have to hike down to the gorge.

The hike down to the gorge and the falls can be long and arduous. After leaving the Morningstar Mill property, you take the Bruce Trail until you see the fork in the road (no kidding). If you continue on the left trail, you will eventually get to the gorge.

There are many shortcuts like this one pictured above that provide a quicker way to get to the falls. There is also one that involves climbing down a precipice via a rope, I would advice you against using any of these routes to get to the falls.

There are posted signs that warn visitors against using alternative routes to get to the falls.

Smashing photo and video set. Were you on your own on the hike?

    1. Thank you. Yeah, I was on my own. I managed to hit my head on a tree and was almost knocked unconscious.

      1. Wow, thank God you’re alright! It seems your Canadian trip has been going/went well. All going well I should be visiting next summer! Best believe I’ll be finding a waterfall or 2. 🙂

      2. Yea. It went well. They have many waterfalls in the Ontario area. I will visit again sometime soon.
