The 2014-2015 season of the English Premier League kicks off in less than six hours. Football is back! The weekends will be great again. As I am writing this I just remembered that I need to select my team for my fantasy football league. With that said, I won’t waste any time with any long introduction or buildup.
There was a lot of transfer activity in the off-season. The Top Five teams from last season definitely got stronger, with Chelsea and Arsenal looking most impressive (I will mention Manchester United even though they didn’t finish in the Top Five, ha-ha). Manchester United’s best signing might prove to be their new coach Louis Van Gaal. Although to be honest anybody would have been an improvement from David Moyes. The Dutchman managed to take his team to third place in the 2014 World Cup. I expect them to challenge for a Top Four spot this season.
Liverpool lost Luis Suarez (who lost his mind at the World Cup) but now have more depth. With Champions League football to contend with, they will need to rest and rotate players. Liverpool’s main priority this season should be cementing their Champions League position while trying to build on what they achieved last season.
Everton made the Romelu Lukaku deal permanent, they have a solid team with a solid coach. Barring any long-term injuries, I see them challenging for a place in Europe.
Manchester City, for the most part, enters this new season with the same team that won the competition last year. They have added experience with the loan signing of Frank Lampard. I believe City’s fate lie at the feet of Aguero and Toure. If these two players can remain fit throughout the season, then I can see City mounting a gallant title defense.
