Green-throated Carib in St. Lucia
Green-throated Carib in St. Lucia

The Green-throated Carib (Eulampis holosericeus) is a large hummingbird with a slightly down-curved bill. Though iridescent green, it appears black in moderate to poor light. It has a brilliant green gorget bordered by metallic blue and a black belly. It is easily distinguished from Purple-throated Carib by its dully colored wings and less curved bill.

This species occurs in a range of habitats, including wet forests, semi-deciduous woodlands, and second growth, although its distribution may vary among islands across moisture and elevational gradients. Although this species is a resident, some individuals may disperse to wetter areas in post-breeding movements.  [Neotropical Birds]

    1. I haven’t had much luck with hummingbirds over the years, but that day I managed to photograph two in a matter of minutes.
