The other day during some downtime at work, my coworkers and I were discussing song titles. I challenged them to list five songs with names in the title, not their favorite songs, but the first songs that came to mind. It proved more difficult than I expected, but in the end, they were all able to come up with five songs. It got me thinking about my favorite songs with names in the title.
Below is a list of my ten favorite songs with names in the title. Feel free to list your favorite ‘Name’ songs in the comment section.
- Dirty Diana – Michael Jackson
- Vincent – Don McLean
- Aicha – Cheb Khaled
- Jeremy – Pearl Jam
- Gloria – Laura Branigan
- Sylvia’s Mother – Doctor Hook and The Medicine Show
- Mr. Jones – Counting Crows
- Tyrone – Erykah Badu
- Lucille – Kenny Rogers
- Bad Bad Leroy Brown – Jim Croce
I like all of those songs. I was thinking, Cherry,Cherry, Neil Diamond, Cherry pink and apple blossom white, Perez Prado, Cherry blossom girl, Cherry, Amy Winehouse, Cherry, Louis Armstrong. My brother in law used to play this on his trumpet: https://youtu.be/zj64NlRnpDY

You know Fred? I am Impressed.
I have not met anyone who knows Tony Williams since I was a teen.
The guitarist on that track is the late Alan Holdsworth.

Michelle? Rocky Raccoon? Bungalow Bill? Polythene Pam? Mean Mr. Mustard?
The Beatles alone must have a dozen, or more.

well thank you, R.E.
I didn’t realize until I put them down, there are at least two Lucille’s out there. frankly I prefer Little Richard’s, it’s way more fun.
“Donna” was the song Richie Valens was promoting (what was known as the ‘a’ side of the record,) and the “b” side, “La Bamba”, was pretty much ignored at that point, because very very few latino songs ever made it to the charts.

I love Little Richard’s Lucille too. My first draft included his song, but it didn’t make my final cut. I love Valens also, and I am familiar with his story. Thanks again for participating.

Does ‘Lucy’ by Destra count? lol It’s the only 1 off my head that hasn’t yet been listed at the moment, and ‘Delilah’ – Movado.
